Building Homes, Building Hope
Habitat for Humanity is more than
building! Habitat is a people-to-people organization forming
partnerships with community leaders, builders, suppliers, volunteers
and Family Partners; and together, providing simple, adequate and
affordable housing to low income families. Habitat for Humanity seeks to provide the pride and responsibility of home ownership to low income families, and to work towards eliminating substandard housing one house at a time. We work by organizing volunteers and obtaining donations of money and materials so that we can build houses in partnership with people in need of simple, decent, durable homes. The homes are sold to our partnering families, usually working low income families, at cost. The families pay for their homes in two ways: they invest "sweat equity", which is voluntary work hours, and this is required as their down payment. They make monthly payments on a long-term, no-interest mortgage. The mortgage monies are then contributed back into our working funds, which are used to build more houses with more families. Most donors appreciate knowing that their funds will recycle to benefit more than one family.
Our MissionOur mission is to provide the pride and the responsibility of home ownership to low income families, and work towards eliminating substandard housing one house at a time.
